Women in rural India experience a lot of healthcare issues especially in the field of Cancer. Cervical and breast cancer is the second and most common disease amongst women. As information about these diseases are limited, it is paramount to spread awareness and provide timely access to all the women in the rural areas.

To take this forward and empower the women in the rural areas of the society we, at GeBBS Foundation have decided to select few districts in India and provide healthcare support by utilizing our resources and efforts.  At present our focus is on Aurangabad and Jalna district. We have currently organized a series of healthcare camps at Auranagabad with the help of our partnered hospital MGM (Mahatma Gandhi Mission hospital) and the Zilla Parishad (a local government organization on district level) of Aurangabad. MGM is one of the most advanced, reputed and multi-specialty care centers. The hospital not only provides curative treatment but also provides preventive, promotional and rehabilitative healthcare services.

Awareness about Cervical and Breast Cancer was spread with the help of the ASHA workers from the Zilla Parishad. Through their word of mouth, the women could then, make an informed choice about whether to participate and get diagnosed from the free health check-up camps.

Our check-up camps are conducted inside our mobile van ‘Clinic on Wheels’. The mobile van provides services at the doorstep of every women within the age group of 30-60 years. This well-equipped mobile van has all the facilities to carry out the screening test with a special focus on PAP Smear Screening. The test is done by a team of 4 members - 1 MGM doctor, 2 Intern Doctors, 1 ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives) and an Assistant (both ladies). The PAP Smear Test samples are then sent to the hospital in Aurangabad where the facilities are available for necessary investigations.
With this holistic approach, we have covered 16 villages in Aurangabad. Our partners ensure maximum coverage for cancer detection in Aurangabad district. More than 950 women from different villages like Pathri, Aland, Jambhala, Georai Gungi, Pirbavda, Dongaon, Maliwadgaon Khamgaon etc. have benefited from the camp. We will continue to bring health awareness among rural women.

Gayabai, a patient, thanked GeBBS Foundations and our partners – ASHA workers and MGM hospital for providing her free treatment on Abdominal Hysterectomy. She feels blessed and hopes that all women like her can be fortunate enough to avail the endless support provided by GeBBS Foundation. We will continue to provide timely healthcare support to all women in rural areas of Auranagabd and Jalna. Click http://gebbsfoundation.org/index.html to know more
