Why to fear when PAP Smear test is here?

A PAP Smear test is not a popular activity, but the 5 minutes procedure is the most essential and lifesaving test for women. Hence it is very important for all women to get the right information about PAP Smear and its significance to ease the fear of the medical tests. This test is essential for detecting Cervical Cancer.

It is always a best practice for all women between the age group of 21 to 65 to plan an annual visit for cervical cancer examination, which is PAP Smear test or HPV test. It not just tells women about the risk of cervical cancer but also warns women about several gynecological issues.

To reduce the mortality rate of cervical cancer in the rural areas, we organize regular healthcare check-up camps in the rural areas of Aurangabad. These camps are conducted in various villages where, medical check-ups are done in our well-equipped mobile van ‘Clinic on Wheels’. Here, we offer a free Pap Smear and Calposcopy tests along with the general medical check-ups. These tests are done by the doctors from MGM who screen, identify and carry out diagnosis tests to confirm the presence of the cervical cells. As rightly stated by Dr. Kritika Agarwal (Resident doctor at MGM) “Detect your Cervical Cancer cells early with a PAP Smear test. It is the best way to identify the virus and get it treated well in advance. Our screening test conducted in the mobile van ‘Clinic on Wheels’ follow simple procedures. So, visit our regular camps and get your medical check-up done”.

When to get screened?
·         21 to 29 years old: A PAP test should be done in every 3 years. HPV testing is required only to follow up abnormal PAP results.
·         30-65 years old: A PAP test and HPV test should be done in every 5 years. Alternatively, a woman can also do a PAP test in every 3 years.
·         Older than 65 years: A co-testing (PAP test plus HPV test) is required in every 5 years.

Screening tests offer the best chance to have cervical cancer cells detected and treated in timely manner. It can prevent most cervical cancers by finding abnormal cervical cell changes (pre-cancers) so that they can be treated before they have a chance to turn into a cervical cancer. One need not fear when PAP Smear test is here!
